It is activated by the command of the drive motor in the engine room from the control panel and works by moving the cabin in the desired direction. The cabin works in conjunction with the counterweight. They move up and down by a movement caused by the friction of the steel rope between them with the drive pulley. The cabin and counterweight are approximately equal in weight to each other. For this reason, energy is saved. Such drive machines are called friction driven elevators. It is also available in lifts that work by wrapping the rope or chain on the drive pulley. Elevators that work in this way are also called drum elevators.
Lifts are divided into types according to their carrying capacity. Elevators used in residences; It is divided into 7 types as 100, 180, 240, 320, 400, 630, 1000 kg. Elevators used in non-residential areas; It is divided into 5 types as 630, 800, 1000, 1200, 1600 kg. Elevators used in health facilities; It is divided into 3 types as 1600, 2000, 2500 kg. According to the elevator speeds, 0.63 m/sec, 1 m/sec, 1.6 m/sec, 2.5 m/sec and 2.5 m/sec; It is equal to 5, including speeds above . Depending on these, the cabin, engine room and pit dimensions of the elevators also vary. In addition to these, elevators use different engines and braking systems according to their speed. The regulator is a safety device that activates and brakes the cabin in case the elevator ropes break.
